Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. – Lao Tzu
Sustainable CAPE extends its reach through a wide variety of programming including lectures, film screenings on food & sustainability, on-farm workshops and field trips, gardening and Cooking with Local Food classes for both adults and kids. We also partner with schools, farmers and fishermen to offer school children hands-on harvesting experiences through organized field trips. Whether gathering oysters or freshly laid hens’ eggs, harvesting at a vineyard or in a bed of winter greens, or navigating a lobster boat, a rolling sheep pasture or a flooded cranberry bog – children gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the origins of local food. Equally important, each child also learns about sustainable methods of growing and harvesting that support – rather than compromise – our environment and future.
The Local Learning Initiative’s ongoing multi-generational offerings gather our community year-round, and are also translated to radio, podcasts, blogs, iMovies, websites, television, magazines and/or newspapers. Sustainable CAPE aims not only to educate, but also to connect, involve and grow both our on and off-Cape audiences in positive & meaningful learning.
