Food Access Programs
Food is Medicine Program
Since 2016, Sustainable CAPE has created innovative Food is Medicine programs in which doctors refer patients at risk of chronic disease on Cape Cod. Upon enrollment, participants receive medically-tailored bags of fruits, vegetables and lean protein delivered throughout their enrollment period. We provide nutrition education and materials to facilitate dynamic and healthful meals. Patient surveys document & measure how increased access to fruits and vegetables positively impact health. Farmers’ Market Coalition
The Sustainable CAPE Farmers’ Market Coalition links Cape Cod Farmers Markets, sharing best practices and expertise as well as offering educational materials. We support markets in offer food access programs so all socioeconomic groups benefit from increased access to local food. We make these programs easier for market managers, vendors and customers alike. The coalition also jointly promotes Cape Cod farmers’ markets offering Fruit & Vegetable Bonus Programs. Read More…
Harvest Highlight Program
Sustainable CAPE supports Cape Cod farms by purchasing produce in bulk from different growers and featuring their produce and business in our Harvest Highlight cooking workshops, newsletters, and local food donations to community kitchens.
